I was thinking of Jerry et al and how hard they worked at remaining aloof and detached in the 60s (ie, always reminding folks--we can't be the ones to "stand" for something, help you with your cause, etc., etc.).

Contradictorially I know, but it some ways it almost seemed harder for them to stay "off" all the wagons rushing by at the time...?

Oh absolutely; in fact, if you can hold to it, in some ways it is the only way to go in my book. Anybody with a "cause" almost always gives me the willies...
